Best Agat Activities in Guam. Guam Agat Activities. services on Guam, Agat or Hagat in Chamorro word is a village on the island of Guam, an unincorporated territory of the United States. Agat is located at the island’s western shore, south of Apra Harbor. The population in this village has decreased since its 2000 census. The village is 16 km (10 miles) southwest of Hagatna, with most of the residents’ indigenous people of Guam called ethnic Chamorros. Some of Agat’s famous spots or sites are the Agat Marina, the Spanish Bridge, Mount Alifan, and War in the Pacific National Historical Park. It was between 1680 and 1684 when Agat was founded by the Spanish governor Don Jose Quiroga, as a military garrison which aimed of controlling the Chamorro people and converting them to Christianity. Japan occupied Guam from 1941 – 1944 during World War II. In that time (Battle of Guam in 1944), Agat became one of the two U.S. Marines landing sites. These sites are now part of the well known, War in the Pacific National Historical Park. As the old village was destroyed during the invasion, after capturing Guam, the U.S. military constructed a new residential community in Agat since Guam residents became homeless by the war south of the original village.
